Jack & Jill Health Fair

Members of the Barry chapter of the Minority Association of Pre-Health Students (MAPS) participated in the Jack and Jill Health Fair in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, Feb. 18. The fair was organized by the UM Miller School of Medicine DOCS Program and provided mental health, ophthalmology, blood sugar, cholesterol, and women’s health screenings in addition to providing information on various health care issues and complementary HIV testing.

MAPS members served as liaisons between healthcare professionals and under-served members of the community, particularly in the area of Spanish and Creole translation. MAPS is Barry’s newest pre-health student organization and has members from both undergraduate (biology, chemistry, and nursing) and graduate (biomedical sciences) programs and is open to all students who are interested in gaining clinical experience and medical/dental school insight, regardless of academic major.

Thank you to everyone for volunteering your time and energy! Special thanks to Miller School of Medicine's DOCS program for allowing Barry University MAPS to serve our community.
