Women's Breast Health Initiative has Another Successful Year

October invokes thoughts of Susan G. Komen, breast cancer awareness, pink t-shirts and ribbons, etc. This October MAPS went out and got involved for breast cancer awareness with the same thoughts in mind. Women's Breast Health Initiative, an organization in the greater Miami devoted to informing and equipping women in preventing breast cancer, organized a campaign on Saturday, Oct.18th in South Dade. Barry University, yet again, made a great impression with MAPS and individual students attending to volunteer. 400 families were informed and/or assisted in getting free breast exams that morning thanks to all those that participated. Thanks to your involvement we made an impact in shortening the gap in minority groups' health disparities.

CPR Training Course

On October 3rd, MAPS held a CPR training course and students who participated were certified by the American Heart Association. Techniques for abdominal trusts for choking and chest compressions were taught. The proper use of an AED (automatic external defibrillator) was also demonstrated. The turnout for the course was excellent! MAPS would like to thank instructor Lon Rosen from One Beat CPR for teaching students the proper techniques to save lives!

Kickball For Heartwalk Foundation

M.A.P.S hosted their one-day kickball tournament on Saturday, September 27th.  This year's event was co-sponsored by Lambda Theta Phi.  The competitors were fellow clubs from Barry University campus (Lambda Theta Phi, Tri-Beta Honor Society, Chemistry Club & Pre-Dental Club).

The objective of the event was to generate funds to donate to the Miami-Dade Heart Walk Association! Due to the generosity of this year's participants, we raised $110.  The members of M.A.P.S would like to express heartfelt gratitude to everyone who played a role in the event’s success.  Thank you all for donating your time and money in helping to save someone’s life! You ROCK!!!
