Members of the Barry University Minority Association of Pre-Health
Students (MAPS) spent Saturday, Sept. 22 volunteering at the 17thAnnual
Breast Health Symposium in Opa-Locka, Fla. While there, they helped to
educate members of this under-served community about the importance of
early detection and cancer screening. This event was sponsored by The
Beautiful Gate Cancer Support & Resource Center and the Florida
Breast Cancer Foundation and had participants from Miami-Dade College
Medical Campus, FIU College of Medicine, the YWCA, and more.
We arrived bright and early to help prepare for the Breast Health Symposium by
setting up tables and chairs for the 20+ vendors that participated.
Martha Lopez is photoed below educating women on the importance of performing routine breast exams:
Delorean and Chris stoped what they were doing and registered to VOTE!

After all was said and done we decided to have a different kind of fun, take a look:
We hope YOU will join in the fun on our next community service trip!
MAPS would like to extend a special thanks to the Beautiful Gate Cancer Support & Resource Center, Florida Breast Cancer Foundation, and Philip Mercado for inviting us to participate in this amazing event.
